How Effective are Directory Links from Niche Web Directories?

If you are an IT Support company providing computer support services, you may also offer SEO as part of your internet packages.  You may have experienced mixed results for your clients regarding SEO, but you have probably worked out one thing, internet web directories are effective if used in the right way.

If you are an IT Services company, gaining back links from related on topic web sites is a well tried way of improving your natural rankings.  Here are a a few pointers to consider when choosing a good directory.

1. Choose a directory that is topical and contains your keyword targets. If the domain name contains your keyword(s) then even better.

2. When submitting your website, check that the title tag of the category page you are submitting to contains your keywords - this will create a more relevant link which will be more effective. Always submit to the most relevant category. If the directory does not have a category for your business, do not use.

3. Does the site need a decent page rank. Not always, a link from a relevant site with a lower page rank than a generic site, is likely to be a better quality link.

4. You don't always have to use your anchor text, if you find a well aligned on topic directory site, consider linking back using your domain name.

5. Check how many other outbound links are on the page. Too many (over 20) and the back link quality will be negligible.
